Kreuzband

A new age called for a new design vocabulary: following the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars with the emergence of nation states in Europe, architects and artists came up with a characteristically bourgeois yet prestigious style catering for the new ruling class: "Empire". This model can claim to be the first "bourgeois" silverware to exist.

For people with an awareness or knowledge of history it is undoubtedly an acknowledgement of past events. The well-known style detail – the cross-over bow sported by the revolutionaries of bygone days – has also lent its name to the historic model "Kreuzband" from Koch & Bergfeld. It was created in 1893 by Heinrich von der Cammer, the head of the company's own Design Office. This model, which may look rather simple at first glance, makes extremely high demands on craftsmen as the little bows need to be worked with great care to make them stand out clearly in the silver – that is our company standard.
